Hunt and
Kill![]() ![]() Wild rats are indeed predators and need to hunt down a lot of their food in the wild, including; insects, small mammals, and even fish. Pet rats still have this hunter's instinct. Pet rats, when they have spotted a small moving object, have a natural desire to chase it, just like cats do. And just as with cats, this allows for some great play time opportunities. All they need is something to chase, and many items can be used. You can entice your rat to chase and kill your hand, chase and kill a feather toy, or even use a thick string. If the object smells of food, they will most certainly chase it. Rats love their food! So to really entice your rats, rub a little jelly on the small object you want them to chase. :) Wave the object under their face to get their attention, and then pull it away. Every time they make a lunge for it, try and tug it away at the last moment. In the end though, always let them capture their prize or they will become discouraged. |
