Rat 'Steals' £118 From Pet Shop Till

A rat in a Swedish pet shop took notes from a cash till to wrap around its babies to keep them warm.

Employees believe the rat waited until the last worker left the shop before escaping from its cage.

The employees at Fidos Arken Zoo had moved the till into the kitchen for the weekend.

When Jessica Hjert arrived on Monday morning she noticed £118 was missing from the till.

She said: "There were only a few notes left," she tells Trollhattans Tidning.

She was sure the money had been stolen. After a few days a smell emerged from the kitchen and she discovered the rats under the fridge. The babies were wrapped in the notes but were all dead.

"Unfortunately they were all dead, they probably did not get anything to eat," she said.

The rat had taken 17 notes from the till to build a comfortable home for its babies.

The notes had all been gnawed on.
