Books are Always, Sometimes, Never Right As we've found with all kinds of pet care books, not all of the advice in rat care books is effective and/or accurate. Some books can be outdated, containing advice later found out to be wrong. Some books make everything out to be way too complicated, or are full of fluff that does not matter. Some books are all about showing or breeding and tell you to do all these things which are completely unnecessary for the common pet. As expected, all our research on the web found much conflicting and inaccurate advice as well. All we can say is, take all advice with a grain of salt, even ours. Even if it comes from a vet. No one is perfect, and sometimes there is more than just the one right way to do something. Also keep in mind that information is always growing and changing. It is impossible to know everything there is because of this fact. You should always keep your mind open, yet skeptical, to new ideas. Our site will constantly change as we learn new information, and as we constantly gain new experience. Try to collect as much information as you can, from as many different sources as you can. This is what we always do. It gives you the big picture, making it easier to pick out what makes sense, and ignore what doesn't. And remember, rats are individuals just like people. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut, and sometimes it is just a matter of trial and error. |
